Although postponed by one week due to the weather, we managed to conduct a final mini clean-up of Ard Fraoigh for 2022 to take us into the New Year. It comprised a quick sweep of Ard Fraoigh to remove any leaf litter and gathering of any rubbish lying around.
We had another good turnout for the clean-up. We achieved all four objectives that we set ourselves for the day, namely i) tidy the entrance to Ard Fraoigh on right hand side, ii) tidy the green area opposite 62-67 (the first cul-de-sac), iii) tidy the green area opposite 32-37 (the second cul-de-sac), and iv) cut back the margins on the left and right of the Stony Path up to The Rise (completed by Mike Corcoran on Sunday 28th).
Thanks again to all who turned out to help.
We had an excellent turn out for the clean-up on Saturday 2nd July. Over seventeen households turned out and contributed to the clean-up.
The three objectives of the clean-up were achieved namely i) pruning back the bushes that line the main entrance to Ard Fraoigh, ii) pruning back the bushes at the end of the first cul-de-sac, and iii) pruning back the bushes at the end of the second cul-de-sac.
As the two cul-de-sacs had not been pruned for many years they required a lot of work and produced a large volume of cuttings. Thanks to Brian Forde for procuring some one tonne bags to gather the prunings and thanks to Michael Connaughton for the use of his pick-up truck to remove the prunings. The total volume of prunings on the day filled Mike's truck about sixteen times, making it the largest clean-up in many years.
The event went off without a hitch and thankfully no one was injured. Ard Fraoigh is looking splendid and well groomed for the summer.
Thank you to all the households who turned out and contributed to the pruning, sweeping, gathering, removals and refreshments. We look forward to continued and improved support for the clean-up days planned for later in the year. The more households who participate, the better our neighbourhood will be.
The 2022 AGM of the Ard Fraoigh Residents Association was held on Monday 23rd May 2022 in the Clybaun Hotel. The minutes of the AGM can be viewed by clicking here.
Despite the cold and wed conditions, seven hardy volunteers turned out to clean out the litter on the stony path. The multi-year accumulation of litter was revealed by the extensive clearing and widening of the stony path carried out earlier in the week by Galway City Council . The litter was cleared out from from Ard Fraoigh all the way up to the Rise.
In total, eight bags of litter and two beer kegs were cleared out.
Galway City Council have completed their pruning work for 2022. Over the past two days they have completed the green area between 21B & 22 and have extensively cut back the stony path.
Here are some photos of the very much widened stony path.
Galway City Council's Parks Department will be carrying out works on the public green area between 21 and 22 Ard Fraoigh and on the stony path next to 17 Ard Fraoigh on week commencing Monday 7th February.
So far, work on the green area between 21B & 22 has progressed well. Work on the stony path has also begun.
Please be careful with vehicles and young children. It is important to keep all children away from the cutting crews and work areas. The council foreman Bob has signage up but be aware of the hazards present with such equipment.
Here are some photos and a clip of the ongoing work.
