The last clean-up of 2023 was carried out on Saturday 16th November 2024 to to take us into the winter. The weather was overcast but dry and we had a decent turnout of volunteers on the day.
We swept up all the leaves on the entrance to road to Ard Fraoigh and from the footpath in front of the apartments on the main Clybaun Road.
We filled multiple one-tonne bags with what we swept up. The place looks much tidier now, and the footpath in front of the apartments on the Clybaun Road is no longer slippery underfoot.
Once again, a big thank you to everyone who turned out and contributed their time and effort to this initiative.
The first clean-up of 2024 was carried out on Saturday 29th June. Due to the rain in the morning the event was postponed but thankfully things improved enough to allow the clean-up to start at 1pm. Due to the weather, and perhaps due to the later start, we had just five volunteers on the day but it was enough to get started.
We pruned back the bushes that line the main entrance to Ard Fraoigh and at the end of the second cul-de-sac.
A special thanks to Shane Tierney who was not available at 1pm so came out early and pruned a significant portion of the main entrance bushes before the clean-up. And a special thanks also to Phil Mulligan for providing delicious rolls to keep us going. They were needed and much appreciated.
Altogether, we filled about 7 one-tonne bags with prunings.
Thank you to all those who turned out and contributed to the pruning, sweeping, gathering, removals and refreshments. Ard Fraoigh is looking in better shape going into the summer.
The 2024 AGM of the Ard Fraoigh Residents Association was held on Tuesday 21st May 2024 in the Clybaun Hotel. The minutes of the AGM can be viewed by clicking here.
The street lights on the main entrance to Ard Fraoigh, up to the start of the second cul-de-sac, and all the lights in the second cul-de-sac, failed on Friday 9th February. The failure was brought to the attention of Clr. Donal Lyons and also reported to Electric Skyline, the company tasked with the maintenance of street lighting in Galway city.
On Tuesday 13th February, Electric Skyline fixed the fault and all street lights in Ard Fraoigh appear to be working again.
For future reference, all street light issues can be reported directly to Electric Skyline via https://www.galway.ie/en/services/roads/publiclighting/.
