The AFRA Christmas party was held in the Clybaun Hotel on Saturday 10th December. Around thirty people turned out on the night and a good night was had by all.
A mini clean-up was carried out by residents on Saturday 10th December to remove all the rubbish that had accumulated in the bush & shrub areas over the years and was exposed by the Parks Department bush pruning. We removed all the rubbish from the bush & shrub areas between the entrances to the two cul-de-sacs and the end of the first cul-de-sac (opposite no. 67). Although it was a very cold morning, the rain held off which made things easier. With a turnout of about ten people we completed the clean-up in under an hour.
As well as filling five large refuse bags with rubbish we also removed three dustbins, one beer barrel (unfortunately empty), a child's tricycle, a traffic cone, assorted pipes and a number of concrete blocks.
Thank you to everyone who turned out and contributed to the effort.

On Monday 21st November Galway City Council Parks Department commenced pruning all the bushes and shrubs in Ard Fraoigh and clearing the firebreak behind Ard Fraoigh.
As of the 4th December, the end of the first cul-de-sac (opposite no. 67) has been pruned and the firebreak behind Ard Fraoigh has been widened and cleared. Work is nearly completed on the area between the entrances to the two cul-de-sacs. The second cul-de-sac (opposite no. 32) and the bushes and shrubs lining the main road into Ard Fraoigh have yet to be pruned. We currently don't have an expected completion date.

The second Ard Fraoigh clean-up day held on 27th August was again a great success. Once more we were lucky with the weather and got a dry day despite the wet week leading up to it. It did threaten to rain once or twice during the clean-up but thankfully held off until a few hours after we finished.
Again we got a great turnout and completed all our planned clean-up tasks. It really does make a difference to the estate.
Altogether, we generated 46 bags of shrub cuttings, grass and gathered rubbish which was collected by GCC the following week.
Thank you to everyone who turned out and contributed to the clean-up.
The photos below don't include everyone who took part in the clean-up, just those who were still around when the photos were taken.
Congratulations to Daryl Hehir, Ailís O'Donnell and Sadhbh Gavin on passing their Junior Cert exams today.
Congratulations to Cian Rafftery and Mikey Connaughton for making it to the U-16 football county final with Salthill-Knocknacarra. They beat Oughterard in the semi-final to book their place in the final against Claregalway. No date has yet been set for the final.
Best of luck to Cian, Mikey and the rest of the Salthill-Knocknacarra team in the final.
Congratulations to Noreen Harris who's garden has won first prize in the Knocknacarra area in the Galway Tidy Towns and Garden Competition 2011.
Noreen, you're doing Ard Fraoigh proud.

The first Ard Fraoigh clean-up day held on 11th June 2011 was a great success. We got beautiful weather and a good turnout. As a result we completed all our planned tasks (and some extra ones) and Ard Fraoigh is now looking much better for the effort.
Thank you to everyone who got involved and contributed to the effort.
I've attached a group photo taken when we were just finishing up. Not everyone who took part in the clean-up is in this photo, just those who were still about when the photo was taken.
