We're back! A long-overdue clean-up day of Ard Fraoigh was carried out by residents on Saturday 20th November 2021. This is the first clean-up we've had in a while, due to COVID, but it is nice to get back up and running and getting Ard Fraoigh back into good shape.
We didn't have the best luck with the weather. For most of the clean-up it drizzled with the odd heavy shower and it didn't clear up until we were just about finished. Despite this we had a decent turnout of about ten people.
The focus of the clean-up today was the bushes and shrubs the entrance to Ard Fraoigh, from the Clybaun Road up to the start of the first cul-de-sac. We had not tended them since 2018 and they were badly in need of a pruning back to be level with the kerb. Galway City Council no longer collects prunings from resident clean-ups so we took them to the area of the stony path to provide fertilizer. Michael Connaughton was kind enough to provide the use of his pick-up and some one tonne bags to transport the prunings to the stony path. As you can imagine, after three years there was quite a volume that required multiple trips.
Thank you to everyone who turned out and contributed to the effort, and to Michael Connaughton for the use of his pick-up.
An AFRA meeting was held in the Clybaun Hotel on Monday 15th November 2021. The minutes of the meeting can be viewed by clicking here.
